Outreach Programs

Akili Bomba engages all in therapy sessions with a difference.

Collective Therapy

The therapy groups consist of 15 beneficiaries/clients, 3 members, and 1 psychologist. These collective sessions serve as a support group for recovering addicts, reformed criminals, and survivors of mental health challenges. Beneficiaries and clients are grouped based on their specific struggles, such as alcoholism, drug addiction, gender-based violence (GBV), and HIV/AIDS, using data collected during registration. Sessions are held weekly at a central location. To support participants, we provide a Mental Health Jamii CT kit for approximately 3 months, helping them adhere to the program.

Household Family Therapy

Akili Bomba does outreach programs in the community for families that have beneficiaries/clients who are infected or affected by mental illness.. This enables families to embrace their member who are struggling with mental health situations.

Through the data collected during the registration process we identify the families who have the immediate need to change their perception towards our beneficiaries or themselves. We target about 12 Households per week.

The outreach programs are held once a week within the households. We offer a Mental Health Jamii HH kit for about 3 months to enable the families follow through the program.

Wazee Initiative

Akili Bomba does outreach programs with the elderly in the community for elders who have struggling teens, youths and adults. Given their nature as care givers we offer them psycho-social support to enable them manage their situations as we also counsel their defendants.

Through the data collected during the registration process we identify the families who have the immediate need to change their perception towards our beneficiaries or themselves. We target about 12 Households per week.

The initiative is done through the Kibera day care for the elderly which has 900 elderly persons divided into 30 groups of 30 people. The outreach programs are held once a week within the existing groups of the program.
